Enter a decimal such as 0.75 or 2.125 and convert it to a simplified fraction.
Decimal to fraction method
A terminating decimal can be written over a power of ten. For example, 0.125 has three decimal places, so it starts as 125/1000. Divide both sides by 125 and the simplified result is 1/8.
| Decimal | Fraction | Mixed number |
|---|---|---|
| 0.25 | 1/4 | 1/4 |
| 0.5 | 1/2 | 1/2 |
| 0.75 | 3/4 | 3/4 |
| 1.25 | 5/4 | 1 1/4 |
| 2.125 | 17/8 | 2 1/8 |
The converter also shows a mixed-number version when the decimal is greater than one. That is useful for measurements, recipe values, and classroom work where 2 1/8 may be easier to read than 17/8. The simplified fraction and the mixed number represent the same value, just in different formats.
This page is intended for terminating decimals such as 0.5, 0.75, 1.25, and 2.125. Repeating decimals need a different algebraic method, so they are not treated as exact repeating patterns here. When you enter a regular decimal, BinaryTrans counts the decimal places, builds the power-of-ten denominator, finds the greatest common divisor, and reduces the answer.
